Ashwani Kumar guides MI to their first win of IPL 2025

Ashwani Kumar ‘s outstanding debut(24/3), and assists by Boult and Chahar guide MI to their first win of the season. Courtesy Rickelton(62) brisk fifty, and SKY’s last-moment assault MI chase this target with 7 overs to spare.

In this match played at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mumbai Indians team made three changes in this match. Will Jacks and Vignesh Puthur returned to the team while Ashwani Kumar handed a debut. Sunil Narine returns to KKR’s team.

Sunil Narine and Quinton De Kock came out to open for Kolkata Knight Riders. Experienced bowler Trent  Boult gave Mumbai an early breakthrough by bowling Sunil Narine(0) in the very first over. Therefore, Quinton de Kock(1), who played a brilliant match-winning innings, was caught out by Ashwani Kumar in Deepak Chahar’s  over,  giving a big blow to Kolkata Knight Riders. However, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and captain Ajinkya Rahane hit three fours in this over.

Left-arm pacer Ashwini Kumar took his first wicket in IPL by dismissing captain Ajinkya Rahane(11) on his debut ball, Tilak took his catch. In the last over of the power play, Deepak Chahar dismissed Venkatesh Iyer(3), the third most expensive player of IPL 2025, and four wickets fell inside the powerplay. In the seventh over, Raghuvanshi(26) was  dismissed by captain Hardik Pandya. Naman took a fine catch of him. After this, KKR sent Manish Pandey as an impact player.

Vignesh, who bowled brilliantly in his debut match, came to bowl the eighth over this time in which Manish Pandey(19) and Rinku Singh(17) hit a six each. Ashwini Kumar, who came in to bowl the 11th over, dismissed Rinku Singh and ended the team’s hopes of reaching a respectable total. In the same over, Ashwini Kumar took his third wicket by bowling out Manish Pandey.

KKR’s eighth wicket fell in the form of Andre Russell(5). Ashwani Kumar got his fourth wicket of the night. Vignesh took his first wicket in this match by dismissing Harshit Rana(4). In the end, Ramandeep played some good shots for Kolkata Knight Riders But Mitchell Santner ended his innings. Pandya took an easy catch.

Kolkata team was all out for 116 runs in 16.2 over. This was the lowest score of this IPL so far.  For Mumbai Indians, Ashwini Kumar took four wickets for 24 runs in three overs, while Deepak Chahar took two wickets; Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner and Vignesh got one wicket each.

Rickelton’s good start, Rohit’s bad form continues

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton came to open for Mumbai to chase the small target of 117 runs. In the third over of the innings, Rickelton hit a six and a four off Spencer Johnson and scored 14 runs from this over. In the next over of Harshit Rana, Ryan scored 14 runs with the help of two fours and a six. Rohit Sharma was out on Russell’s ball in the last over of the powerplay. Rohit and Rickelton added 46  runs for the first wicket. Will Jack hit a six off Russell to help Mumbai Indians complete 50 runs in the powerplay.

Rickelton and Surya gave Mumbai a victory

Rickelton started dominating the spinners after the powerplay ended. He hit three sixes in two overs of Sunil Narine. He completed his half century in 33 balls.

After this, Ajinkya Rahane took a very good low catch of Will Jacks and showed him the way to dugout. Russell took his second wicket. Suryakumar Yadav did not waste much time and hit a six on the second ball of his innings and expressed his intent.

Russell, who came to bowl the third over of his spell, Suryakumar Yadav hit two fours on two consecutive balls. And he ended the match in his own style by hitting a six on the fifth ball of this over. Mumbai won this match with 43 balls remaining.

Mumbai won the match by 8 wickets. This was Mumbai Indians’ first win after consecutive losses in IPL 2025. Ashwini Kumar performed brilliantly on Debut, became Man of the Match.
