All-round Punjab Kings secure Second win of IPL 2025

An all-round performance from the Punjab Kings helps them to register 8-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants. A clinical performance from bowlers followed by outstanding batting displayed by top-order batsmen made it two in two for PBKS.

Punjab Kings Shines in Powerplay

Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first. For LSG, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh came to open the innings. Arshdeep Singh made his captain decision right by providing an early breakthrough in the very first over and dismissed  Marsh on a golden duck. Markram(28) hit 3 fours in Arshdeep’s second over and showed some intent after two tight overs. In the 4th over of Lockie Ferguson, he hit a four and a six but Ferguson had the last laugh as he bowled him on the next delivery.

Maxwell dismissed LSG’s captain Rishabh Pant(2), who was caught by Yuzi Chahal. LSG scored 39 runs in the powerplay but lost 3 wickets.

Pooran and Badoni provide some assistance to LSG’s innings.

After the powerplay, Nicolas Pooran showcased his aggressive intent,  he hit two consecutive boundaries followed by 15 runs over from Chahal’s over. He hit 2 fours and one six in this over. Stoinis who bowled 11th over of the innings, Pooran hit the last two balls for six and four. In the 12th over Pooran was out while trying to play a big shot. Maxwell grabs a high catch on Yuzi’s ball. He made 44 runs in 30 balls including 5 fours and 2 sixes. He shared a 54-run partnership with Ayush Badoni.

David Miller(19) hit some good fours but Marcon Jansen dismissed him in his returning spell.

Arshdeep for Punjab Kings, Samad for LSG

Abdul Samad hit a first ball six. In Chahal last over Ayush Badoni(41) hit a six. Arshdeep Singh went for 20 runs in his 3rd over courtesy of Badoni’s four and Abdul Samad(27) one six and two fours. In the last over of LSG’s inning, Arshdeep Singh dismissed both of them, restricting LSG to 171-7.

For Punjab Kings, Arshdeep got 3 wickets while Lockie, Yuzi, Marco, and Maxwell got one wicket each.

A promising start by Prabhsimran Singh

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya came to open the innings for Punjab Kings. Singh hit four and six in Shardul Thakur’s first over. In 3rd over, Digvesh Rathi got a wicket of Priyansh Arya(8), who was caught by Shardul Thakur.

Prabhsimran Singh took charge on Ravi Bishnoi who came to bowl the last over of powerplay. He hit 2 back-to-back boundaries and then a six . PBKS cored 15 runs from this over. Punjab Kings scored 62-1 in powerplay compared to Lucknow Super Giants 39-3.

62-1- is the joint second highest powerplay score in IPL games in Lucknow behind only 70-1 by KKR against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024.

Shreyas Iyer, Nehal Wadhera quick finish

Prabhsimran Singh completed his 50 in just 23 balls. He hit back-to-back fours in Ravi Bishnoi’s over. Prabhsimran Singh out after scoring 69 runs in 34 balls including 9 fours and 3 sixes. Digvesh Rathi got his wicket.

Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings Impact Player Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer ensured np further damage. Nehal hit 2 sixes and a four in 14th over and scored 16 runs from it. Shreyas Iyer scored a four and a six from Avesh Khan’s over meanwhile Nehal was in some hurry as he scored couple of sixes and four in 16th over. Therefore, Shreyas hit a six to completed his fifty and Punjab Kings win the match by 8 wickets.

Iyer scored 52 runs in 30 balls including 3 fours and 4 sixes while Nehal scored 43 runs in 25 balls with the help of 3 fours and 4 sixes.
