Rajat Patidar’s RCB defeated Chennai at Chepauk

Rajat Patidar ‘s Royal Challengers Bengaluru breached the Chepauk fortress for the first time since 2008. In the eighth match of IPL, RCB defeated CSK by 50 runs. This is their second win this season.

Good start for RCB

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to bowl first Virat Kohli and Phil Salt came to open for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Phil Salt showed good intent right from theĀ  beginning. Salt scored 16 runs of Ravichandran Ashwin who came to bowl the second over of the innings.

Salt scored 25 runs in 16 balls, hitting five fours and a six. RCB made a partnership of 45 runs for the first wicket. Salt was out in the fifth over. He was deceived by Noor Ahmed’s ball and MS Dhoni performed a brilliant stumping to send him back to the pavilion.

RCB made 56 for the loss of one wicket in the powerplay.

Padikkal-Rajat Patidar counter-attacks

Devdutt Padikkal started RCB’s innings rapidly by hitting two fours and a six in one over of Ravindra Jadeja. Devdutt Padikkal was out after playing a quick innings of 27 runs in 14 balls. He was dismissed by R Ashwin. RCB captain Rajat Patidar came to bat at number four. He also looked in good touch.

At the other end, Virat Kohli was seen struggling. The ball was not coming on his bat that well. He was just playing run a ball. However, the quick knocks of Devdutt Padikkal and Rajat Patidar did not let his struggling knock have much of an impact on the RCB team.

RCB crossed the 100 run mark in 11 overs In this over, Virat Kohli tried to make a comeback by hitting a six and a four.

In the 12th over of the innings, Deepak Hooda dropped an easy catch of Rajat Patidar on Ravindra Jadeja’s ball. In the next over, Rahul Tripathi gave a second chance to Rajat Patidar on the very first ball of Noor Ahmed. He also dropped a difficult catch. However, Virat Kohli was out on the very next ball. He played an innings of 31 runs on 30 balls. He shared a 41-run partnership with Rajat Patidar.

On the fifth ball of this over, Rajat Patidar got his third chance when the ball took the edge of his bat and went towards the third man but Khalil Ahmed dropped a low catch. He took full advantage of this opportunity and hit a six and two fours in Ravindra Jadeja’s over. In the 16th over, Noor Ahmed bowled Livingstone. This was his third wicket in the match. With this wicket, he reached the first position in the Purple Cap race.

Tim David finishes of its own style

Rajat Patidar completed his half-century by hitting a four off Khalil Ahmed. This was his first half-century as captain for RCB. Jitesh Sharma(12) was out after giving an easy catch to Ravindra Jadeja off Khalil Ahmed.

Matheesha Pathirana, who came to bowl the second last over of the innings, dismissed Rajat Patidar. Pathirana sends back Krunal Pandya on duck on the fourth ball. Pathirana gave only one run in this over. This run also came because of a wide ball.

Sam Curran, who came to bowl the last over of the innings, hit three consecutive sixes and took Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a strong score. He scored 22 runs in 8 balls, hitting three sixes and a four. Tim David did not take any singles or doubles in his innings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 196 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs. Noor Ahmed took the maximum of three wickets for Chennai Super Kings. Pathirana took two wickets, Khalil Ahmed and Ashwin got one wicket.

Superb bowling from Hazelwood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Rachin Ravindra and Rahul Tripathi came to open for Chennai Super Kings. In the second over, Hazelwood got Rahul Tripathi(5) caught behind the wicket by Phil Salt. On the last ball of this over, Hazel Wood gave a big blow to Chennai by dismissing Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad on a score of zero.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazelwood displayed brilliant swing bowling. CSK lost three wickets inside the powerplay after Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Deepak Hooda in the fifth over. CSK scored 30 runs in the powerplay and lost three wickets.

CST never recovered from the early blows and was playing slowly and scoring runs slowly.

Superb performance by RCB bowlers

Rajendra was playing well on one end but he was not getting support from the other end In the eighth over, Liam Livingstone dismissed Sam Curran. In 9th over Livingstone dismissed Sam Curran. He faced 13 balls and scored only 8 runs.

Impact player Shivam Dubey(19) and Rachin Ravindra did hit some shots but they were playing a lot of dot balls in between.

In the 13th over, Yash Dayal bowled Rachin Ravindra and with this Chennai Super Kings had lost five wickets. By bowling Shivam Dubey on the fifth ball, Yash Dayal almost ended the hopes of Chennai Super Kings and made it possible to reach this target.

RCB spinners tightened their grip on the match

For Royal Challengers Bangalore, Liam Livingstone and Suyash Sharma, who came as an impact player, bowled very well. Both of them did not give much chance to the Chennai Super Kings batsmen. Due to this the asking run rate was increasing for Chennai Super Kings.

Liam Livingstone gave the seventh blow to Chennai by dismissing Ravichandran Ashwin. The excellent bowling of RCB bowlers was such that Chennai Super Kings completed their 100 runs in 16 overs. Dhoni and Jadeja were also not able to play freely against RCB bowlers. Although Ravindra Jadeja hit a four and a six in the 18th over of Suyash Sharma, but by then it was too late. With this, Ravindra Jadeja became the first player to complete double of 3000 runs and take 100 wickets in IPL.

Dhoni hit two fours on the first two balls of the 19th over and gave Chennai Super Kings fans some reason to cheer. Hazelwood dismissed Jadeja in the 19th over. In the over of Kunal Pandya who came to bowl the 20th over, Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried to ease the grief of defeat of his fans by hitting two sixes and a four. He scored 30 runs in 16 balls with the help of three fours and a four and remained unbeaten till the end. Chennai’s team could only score 146 runs at the loss of eight wickets.

Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Nature and Super Kings by 50 runs. This is the second victory of this season for them

For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Hazelwood took 3 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs. Yash Dayal, Liam Livingstone also took two wickets each while Bhuvneshwar Kumar got one success.

Rajat Patidar was named Man of the Match for his half-century.
