Shardul Thakur, Pooran star in LSG’s first win

Shardul Thakur four-fer and Nicolas Pooran blazing 70 runs helped LSG to register their first win of the season.

Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad: Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma came to open for Sunrisers Hyderabad. LSG bowlers came up with a special strategy for both the batsmen. The bowlers mostly bowled the ball outside the off stump. It also benefited in the third over, Shardul Thakur gave the first blow to Hyderabad by dismissing Abhishek Sharma (6)on a short ball. Shardul Thakur created a stir in the Hyderabad camp by dismissing the last match’s centurion Ishan Kishan on the very next ball. Hyderabad got two important batsmen out for 15 runs.

But Head and Nitish Reddy continued to bat with intent. Travis Head made his intentions clear by hitting 18 runs in one over of Avesh Khan.

The Travis got a chance on the very first ball of Ravi Bishnoi who came to bowl the last over of the powerplay. Nicholas Pooran drop a simple catch of him at long on. He added salt to the wound by hitting a six on the third ball of this over. On the fifth ball, Travis Head got another chance. This time Ravi Bishnoi dropped a catch on his own ball. However, this catch was quite difficult as compared to the previous one.

Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 62 runs at the loss of two wickets at the end of the powerplay.

Aniket Verma makes an impact, Prince Yadav impressive spell

Prince Yadav silenced the Hyderabad crowd by bowling out Travis Head. Head was out after scoring 47 runs He shared a 61-run partnership in 32 balls with Nitish Reddy.

Heinrich Klassen, who came to bat at number five, played some good shots but luck was not with him. Nitish Kumar Reddy played a straight shot on Prince Yadav’s ball which hit his hand and went straight to the non-striker stump. Heinrich Klassen was out of the crease during this time and he got an unfortunate runout. Klassen scored 26 runs in 17 balls.

Aniket Verma came to bat at 6 number. In the 15th over,  Nitish Kumar Reddy was bowled out with a superb googly of Ravi Bishnoi. Aniket Verma hit four sixes in two consecutive overs of Ravi Bishnoi and Digvesh Rathi.

He was out on 36 runs on the ball of Digvesh Rathi. He hit a total of five sixes in his thirteen-ball innings.

Shardul Thakur shines with old ball too

Shardul Thakur dismissed Abhinav Manohar to give Hyderabad a big blow to their hopes of reaching the 200-run mark. Pat Cummins hit three consecutive sixes off two balls of Shardul Thakur and one ball of Avesh Khan. He scored 18 runs in total from 4 balls and was dismissed by Avesh Khan. Shardul Thakur took his fourth wicket by dismissing Mohammed Shami And reached the first position in the Purple Cap race. In the end, Harshal Patel and Simarjeet Singh scored singles and doubles to take Hyderabad to 190/9.

For Lucknow, Shardul Thakur took four wickets for 34 runs in four overs. Avesh Khan, Digvesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, Prince Yadav got one wicket each.

Lucknow’s explosive start

Aiden Markram came to bat for Lucknow and Mitchell March as impact player. Markram was out in the second over on Shami’s ball. Nicholas Pooran came to bat at number three. Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh hit a flurry of sixes in the next three overs.

Lucknow scored 77 runs at the loss of 1 wicket till the Powerplay ended. They Hit 6 sixes during the powerplay for Lucknow Super Giants.

Pooran and Marsh did a one sided match

Nicholas Pooran and scored 19 runs in a single over of Adam Zampa who came as an impact player. Pooran reached his half century milestone in 18 balls which is the fastest half-century of IPL 2025 so far.

The LSG team completed 100 runs in 7.3 overs, which is their fastest till now. Nicholas Pooran got out playing a great innings, he was dismissed LBW by pat Cummins. Pooran scored 70 runs in 26 balls with the help of 6 sixes and 6 fours.

Pooran and Marsh shared a 116-run partnership for the second wicket in 43 balls. This is the highest ever partnership for the second wicket for LSG.

Back to back wickets for Hyderabad

Mitchell Marsh completed his hundred in 29 balls by hitting a four off a back ball. But his innings didn’t last long and he was out two balls later off the bowling of Pat Cummins. He scored a total of 52 runs with the help of 7 fours and 2sixes.

Captain Rishabh Pant was dismissed by Harshal Patel after scoring 15 runs off 15 balls. Ayush Badoni(6) became the victim of Adam Zampa.

In the end, David Miller and Abdul Samad made a partnership of 29 runs in 12 balls.  Miller secured victory for Lucknow by hitting a four. Lucknow Super Giants won this match in 16.1 overs and achieved their first victory in IPL 2025. Pat Cummins got 2 wickets  while Shami, Harshal, Zampa got one wicket each.

Shardul Thakur got the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling.
