Shreyas Iyer Captaincy innings yielded a win for Punjab

IPL match no.5 played at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad. Vyshak impact , Iyer captaincy Knock and Shashank finish, helps Punjab won by 11 runs against GT.

Priyansh scored four runs on the very first ball of Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan who came to bowl the seventh over of the innings But Arya’s magic didn’t last long and Rashid Khan showed him the way out in similar over. Priyansh Arya(47) along with captain Shreyas made a partnership of 51 runs in 21 balls.

Azmatullah Omarzai , who came to bat at number four, could not do much and were dismissed by Sai Kishore after scoring 16 runs in 15 balls. Sai Kishore gave Punjab two consecutive blows in two balls by dismissing Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell of LBW on the very next game.

After this, Stoinis came to bat and scored 20 runs and made a partnership of 58 runs with captain Shreyas Iyer. Stoinis was also dismissed by Sai Kishore.

Shreyas Iyer- Shashank Singh finishes in style

After that, last year’s hero Shashank Singh came to bat for Punjab Shashank and Iyer carried Punjab’s innings forward like a bullet train.

Shreyas Iyer scored 24 runs of Prasidh Krishna with the help of three sixes and a four. In the 18th, Shashank Singh hit two sixes off Rashid Khan’s ball and scored 20 runs for Punjab Kings.

In the last over of the innings, Shashank Singh scored 23 runs including 5 fours in Mohammad Siraj’s over. There was a partnership of 81 runs in just 28 balls between Shashank Singh and Shreyas Iyer. Both the batsmen remained unbeaten till the end Punjab Kings team scored a huge score of 243 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Shreyas Iyer scored 97* runs in 42 balls, during which he hit 5 fours and 9 sixes. Shashank Singh also scored 44*runs in 16 balls with a strike rate of 275.He hit six fours and two sixes.

For GT Sai Kishore bowled beautifully and gave only 30 runs in four overs and took 3 wickets. Rabada and Rashid got one wicket each.

GT’s slow start

Captain Suman Gill and young batsman Sai Sudharsan came to open for Gujarat Titans. Punjab Kings bowled very tight in the first three overs. During this period, GT could score only 17 runs

In the last three overs of the power play, Gill showed some intent and hit three sixes. He scored 33 runs in 14 balls And he was out on the ball of Glenn Maxwell in the last over of the power play. Gujarat Titans scored 61 runs at the loss of one wicket by the end of the power play.

Significant partnership of Sai Sudarshan and Butter

Sai Sudharsan showed some intent after Gill’s dismissal. He sent the balls of experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Glenn Maxwell out of the ground for maximum. He completed his half-century in 31 balls. This was his seventh half-century in IPL.

Arshdeep Singh, who came to bowl the 13th over of the innings, dismissed Sai Sudharsan. Shashank Singh took an easy catch. Sai Sudharsan scored 74 runs during which he hit 5 fours and 6 sixes.

In over number 11, 12, 13, 14, Gujarat Titans batsman scored 17, 17, 14 and 17 runs.

GT impact player versus Punjab impact player

Gujarat Titans sent Sherfane Rutherford to bat as an impact player after Sai Sudharsan was out. He scored 17 runs in a single over of Stoinis by hitting two sixes and fours and made 18 runs individually in the first 7 balls.

After this comes the turn of Punjab Kings’ impact player Vijaykumar Vyshak.

Vijaykumar Vyshak, who came to bowl the 15th over of the innings, bowled very accurately with Yorkers and other combinations and gave away only five runs in this over. Gujarat Titans now needed 70 runs in the last five overs. In the next over Marco Jansen also made this target difficult for Gujarat by giving away only 8 runs.

Vyshak gave only five runs in the over 18th, during which he bowled three wide balls, yet the GT batsmen could not make any impact.

Vyshak was bowling a brilliant yorker and on the other hand Rutherford could not show any intent after the first few balls, he was trying to play the same type of shots and he was playing dot ball after dot ball.

Punjab great comeback with the ball

Punjab, who conceded three overs of 17 runs in the 11th to 14th over, conceded only 5, 8 and 5 runs in the 15th, 16th and 17th overs respectively.

Jos Buttler completed his half-century in the 18th over but he could not continue his innings for long. He was bowled by Marco Jansen giving a big blow to GT’s hopes.

In the 19th over of Vyshak, Rutherford did hit some shots but it was too late by then.GT needed 27 runs in the last over.

Rahul Tewatia(6) was run out on the first ball of the final over. After this Arshdeep also dismissed Rutherford(46) Shahrukh Khan did hit a six on the last ball but it was of no use to the team.

Arshdeep Singh gave only 15 balls in the last over and Punjab Kings won the match by 11 runs.

Shreyas Iyer was adjudged Man of the Match for his captaincy innings.

GT hit a total of 16 sixes in this match which is his highest ever in IPL.

232 runs is the highest total scored by Gujarat Titans in IPL till date.

And 232 is Gujarat Titans’ second highest total in IPL. Their highest total is 3 wickets for 233.
