Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians in El-Clasico of IPL

Chennai Super Kings started their IPL by defeating Arch-rival Mumbai Indians with a splendid performance. In the debut match for CSK,  Afghanistan wrist spinner Noor Ahmad took four wickets and his experienced spin bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja supported him brilliantly. Chasing the target, Chennai’s team defeated Mumbai Indians by four wickets with the help of half-centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra.

Mumbai Indians top order collapse

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to field first. Fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed proved his decision right in the very first over.  Khaleel Ahmed sent Mumbai Indians’ star batsman Rohit Sharma back to the pavilion on a score of 0 on the fourth ball itself.

Mumbai’s second opening batsman Ryan Rickelton(13) hit three fours but his innings did not last long. He was bowled by an inside edge off Khaleel Ahmed delivery. Will Jacks(11)debut was not up to the expectation. Ravichandran Ashwin who played for Chennai Super Kings after 2015, has dismissed Will Jacks.

Surya-Tilak assistance to MI innings

Tilak Varma and Mumbai Indians captain Suryakumar Yadav managed the Mumbai innings to some extent. Both of them took the innings forward in a simple and fast manner While Tilak Varma adopted an aggressive attitude, Surya Kumar Yadav comfortably took the innings forward. Mumbai Indians scored 52 runs at the loss of 3 wickets by the end of the power play. Both of them scored 51 runs in 36 balls for the 4th wicket partnership.

Suryakumar Yadav was deceived by Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmed and was caught by a magical stumping by 43-year-old Mahendra Singh Dhoni. After Surya Kumar was out, Mumbai Indians batsmen could not do much. Noor Ahmed quickly showed the Mumbai Indians batsman the way to pavilion.

Both Robin Minz and Tilak Varma could not understand the ball of Noor Ahmed and lost their wickets. Tilak Varma was out of LBW on the ball of Noor Ahmed  and Robin Minz was caught by Ravindra Jadeja on an easy catch. Naman Dhir fell prey to the ball of  Noor Ahmed.

In the end, former Chennai Super Kings bowler Deepak Chahar provided some support to Mumbai Indians batting line-up and scored quick 28 runs to take the team to a respectable total. Mumbai Indians team could only score 155 runs in 20 overs at the loss of 9 wickets. Afghanistan’s Wrist spinner Noor Ahmed has taken the maximum of four wickets for Chennai Super Kings.

Apart from this, Khaleel Ahmed took three wickets for 29 runs in four overs, while Nathan Ellis and Ravichandran Ashwin got one wicket each.

Rachin-Ruturaj Rule

Rachin Ravindra and impact player Rahul Tripathi came out to chase this target from Chennai Super Kings. Rahul Tripathi was out on Chahar ball on individual score of 2 runs.

After that, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra took the team’s score forward rapidly. While Rachin Ravindra was taking the Chennai Super Kings innings forward with ease and patience. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had adopted a different aggressive style. Rituraj Gaikwad scored 56 runs in 23 balls and during his innings he hit 6 fours and three sixes .Vignesh Puthur, who came in as an impact player for Mumbai Indians, dismissed Rituraj Gaikwad.

Rituraj Gaikwad and Ravindra shared a 67-run partnership in 37 balls After that Shivam Dubey and Deepak Hooda also fell prey to Vignesh Puthur’s ball. Ravindra Jadeja was also run out on a individual score of 17 runs. Meanwhile Rachin Ravindra also completed his half century.

Former Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni came on the field after Ravindra Jadeja was out. He faced two balls without scoring any runs and was notout till the end. Rachin Ravindra hit the winning shot for 6 runs and made Chennai Super Kings win the match by four wickets

From Mumbai Indians, Vignesh the maximum of three wickets and Deepak Chahar and Will Jacks took one wicket each. Experienced and New Zealand veteran fast bowler Trent Boult did not get any wicket.

 Chennai Super Kings ‘s Noor Ahmed, received the Man of the Match award. With this defeat Mumbai Indians have lost their first match of the season for the 13th consecutive time. The last time MI won the first match of the season was in 2012.
